Saaquan Jefferson grew up on Brooklyn corners where the bodega was the kitchen, the coffee shop, and the neighborhood meeting spot — all before 9 AM. When he moved to Grand Rapids, he missed it. So he and his wife Myleka, a GR native, built one.
Brooklyn Bodega Bagels & Deli opened on Jefferson Ave SE in January 2022. Bagels are rolled by hand and baked every morning. Cream cheese is made in-house — plain to jalapeño cheddar to sun-dried tomato. Subs are stacked on hero bread baked fresh that day and piled with Boar's Head meats.
Grab a Brooklyn Boy on your way to work. A pastrami sub on your way home. Or sit down with a coffee and a schmear and stay a while.
